MOUNTAIN BROOK, Alabama -- The city of Mountain Brook will kick off today's Christmas Parade led by Mountain Brook Elementary' s Sean Fredella, an 11-year-old cancer patient diagnosed with a rare adult tumor.

Fredella will serve as the parade's Grand Marshal, overseeing an array of holiday floats, music, a marching band and Christmas elves beginning with live entertainment at 2:30 p.m.

Mayor Terry Oden is scheduled to arrive on an antique fire truck, followed closely by a host of other special guests including Santa Claus. Mountain Brook High School's nine-member all male a cappella group, A Bunch of Guys, is set to perform. Annie and Helen Catherine Reich are also slated to perform during the parade.

Immediately after the parade, attendees will also have the opportunity to take a picture with Santa on center stage in Mountain Brook Village, sponsored by Village Living.

This year's parade route is new and longer than those in the past, winding down Cahaba Road, Culver Road and Petticoat Lane. The parade will begin at 3 p.m., but the Mountain Brook Police Department reminds residents and attendees that all roads into Mountain Brook Village will be closed at 2:45 p.m. on the day of the parade and will not reopen until approximately one-hour later when the parade is finished. No vehicles will be allowed to move throughout Mountain Brook Village at the time of the parade or leave the area.
